The sport you choose to participate in has basic fundamentals that each athlete must learn and demonstrate to be effective. The goal is to master the fundamental skills of the sport to build a solid foundation. Lack of a solid foundation compromises your entire development and your ability to play the sport well. An athlete must be able to execute properly and then master the basic fundamental skills. A strong foundation of fundamentals is the first step toward success in sports.

Fundamental Skill Development has four distinct components:

1) Training – to learn a new skill
2) Practice – to perfect the new skill
3) Game – to demonstrate command of the skill
4) Coaching – to make adjustments in mastering the skill
